Fred’s Seedling Major Pecan
Fred’s Seedling Major Pecan is a seedling that was selected by Fred Blankenship from a group of seedlings he got from John Brittain. It was selected because it had a large number of lenticles. Lenticles are a structure on the bark of some trees that aid in respiration. It was a good choice. It has won 2nd place in both the Missouri and Kansas nut competitions. It bore nuts in 10 years as a seedling.
It is a large nut with good flavor that fills well. It has never shown signs of pecan scab. It is also known as Hickry’s Major
