Branch Russell Hickory is a sibling of the Mitch Russell Hickory. It too is a hybrid of Shagbark and Shellbark Hickories. It has both 5 leaves and 7 leaves  on the same tree. The nuts are very large for a Shagbark and medium for a Shellbark. Shells are thin and the nuts crack out well in mostly halves. The parent tree that produced the nuts that grew this tree grew on the bank of the Salt River in Butler County Kentucky. The place that tree grew is now Taylorsville Lake.
