Description
B B Grainger #5 Shagbark Hickory is another selection made by Fred Blankenship from seedlings growing under a mature Grainger tree at Bernhiem Arboretum. The trees were of course collected with permission and planted out at Mr. Blankenships farm for evaluation. #5 passed muster as a large, good shelling flavorful Shagbark Hickory. It ripens late in the season right around mid October in Kentucky. Mr Blankenship feels it is as good as the original Grainger
