Description

Oconee Pecan

The Oconee Pecan is the product of a controlled cross by the USDA between the varieties Barton and Schley. It was chosen for release in 1989 for its large nut size and relatively good scab resistance.

Oconee is a large pecan that averages 48 nuts per pound. Kernel color is good and kernel quality is good. Nuts average 53% kernel with a high percentage of Fancy grade pecans.

Oconee has some scab resistance but will need to be sprayed for complete control.

Oconee bears a good crop every year and seems to resist overbearing that leads to on years and off years. Nuts ripen mid October making it suitable for all of the Mid-South and the lower Midwest. It is a good pollinator for Kanza and Lakota.
