Seneca Pecan pp34,902 was released by the USDA January 10, 2023. It was tested as 1997-34-0017. It is a cross between two ultra northern selections NC-2B and NC-4. The parents were selections made by Doug Campbell. NC-4 is from a cross made between the varieties Colby and Peruque and NC-2B is from Colby x unknown, trialed in Niagara on the Lake Ontario Canada.

The tree form is compact and sturdy. Pollination is type 1. It should pollinate and be pollinated by Kanza an Lakota. At this time, Seneca Pecan appears to have strong scab resistance.

Nut size is 63 nuts per lb and shuck split is around September 23, one day before Pawnee.

Nut production is good but not overly productive. Nuts seem to fill well with limited irrigation. Nut size is slightly larger than Kanza. Nuts are 57.38% kernel and kernels are blonde with wide dorsal grooves that come free from packing material easily.

This is a compact, productive tree with an early ripening date. It should be trialed in northern areas. It appears to have good potential.
