Summersweets are adapted to damp places and are unusual in their ability to thrive in shady wet areas. They do not care for swampy places that never dry, but can do well in areas that flood periodically. They spread naturally by underground root sprouts. They are not aggressive growers that might take over but, will fill in where they are wanted. They can be controlled by mowing regularly.
