The Pounds Pecan was discovered by Leon Pounds in Gentryville Indiana around 1983. It is a seedling that grew underneath a Major Pecan Tree so it is likely a Major Seedling.
Pollen shed is type 1. These pecans are classified as a medium sized nut. Nut size is 79 per pound and 47% kernel. Like Major, it has good scab resistance and has a similar shuck split to Major.
Major seedlings are quite popular since they tend to inherit the superior scab resistance of Major.
This tree has been tested for many years by Jerry Lehman in Terra Haute Indiana.
