Grafting Knives

Description

We are offering a selection of Grafting Knives made by Due Buoi in Italy. I use these knives myself grafting trees in my nursery. I often see people online bragging that they can graft with a disposable blade box cutter and while you can use such a tool, why take the added risk that your hard work might fail over an improper tool.

Grafting is a specialized skill and as such, has specialized tools designed to aid in the success of the grafter. These knives have been designed and perfected over the generations by collaberations between grafters and knife makers since the invention of steel itself. Grafting knives are beveled only on one side to aid in the flat matching cuts essential to successful grafting. The steel used is hardened to hold a sharp edge for an extended session. The body of the knife is substantial and the riveting secure to take the stresses of use even in hard woods like Pear and Pecan. On the top tip of the knife is a rounded, thinned, raised tip that is used as a bark lifted when budding and bark grafting.

The handle scales on the P and AP Models are a durable black polymer that can take the abuse from dirt, sweat and sun. The Super Simply handles are fiberglass reinforced  PA66 Nylon that eliminates the need for the brass liner making this a lighter knife. The knives are well balanced and fit the hand well. The AP models have a slightly slimmer handle profile for smaller hands (see picture at bottom of the items). We also offer hard to find left handed versions of these knives.

You can find a cheaper knife and you can find more expensive knives. I have used both. I feel these knives are a happy medium between the two, balancing quality, value, and function.

A comparison between the P handle and the AP handle
