We are happy to announce that we will be offering 3 new USDA Pecans this year. Pueblo Pecan pp34,811, Seneca Pecan pp34,902 and Zuni Pecan pp34,879. 3 new Pecans for 3 different applications.
Pueblo Pecan pp34,811 is a more compact tree with a narrow canopy allowing closer tree placement. Quality nuts, early shuck split and tested successfully as far north as Southern Indiana. 54 nuts per pound and shuck split September 19th. Pollination is type 1
Seneca Pecan pp34,902 is another compact sturdy tree that appears to have strong scab resistance. 63 nuts per pound and a shuck split around September 23. This tree seems to be productive with limited inputs. Pollination is type 1
Zuni Pecan pp34,879 is a large pecan at 48 nuts per pound. Nuts shuck split around October 3rd. While scab resistant now, it will probably do best in the drier climate of the central and western states. Pollination is type 1
These are exiting new trees that should be trialed by growers all across the country. The good breeders at the USDA do their best to evaluate their trees and only release trees that are better than what is currently available.
